To see our teenagers sit together comfortably, easily, familiarly — that was the goal many years ago when we parents joined Down Syndrome Support Team. We parents were just trying to figure out what the heck this life with an extra chromosome meant. We laughed, we cried, and we kept trying new things to see what stuck. And then laughed and cried again when what we found worked one day, completely fell apart the next 😂
We didn’t know what we were doing —but we knew 100% who we were doing it for.
I’m not being sappy, I’m being candid. This picture isn’t meant to inspirational. It’s meant to show what can happen when parents come together around something bigger than themselves—something as basic, and as essential, as companionship. It doesn’t just happen for our kids, but we can always find ways to create spaces for it to grow and flourish. 🌷
