RISE UP TUESDAY!
Your smile in this world makes a difference.

RISE UP MONDAY!
Go big and own it!

After a workout, I asked this man, “Wasn’t that fun?!” And he replied, “Oh, no, I work too hard for it to be fun.” Huh, I always thought that was the fun part. If hard work equals progress, and progress equals happiness, and happiness contains fun, well then, there you have it.
I share this because I know some of you out there are trying to work fitness into your life. Especially with the new year upon us. It can be an overwhelming task. And yes, it is hard. And guess what, it doesn’t get any easier. But the fun part is, you get better. Your reward is the thrill of your personal achievement. Some days, I’m happy I fit one mile into my day. But that is one mile better than I was the day before. Our progress is all very personal and it changes day to day. As long as we know inside we are giving our best with what we have that day, that is where the thrill of achievement inside of us thrives and can’t help but extend to other areas of our lives.
I know I look like every run is a blast in my pictures, and it is. Not because it is easy, but because it is a freaking thrill to keep moving forward in my own life journey. Be it one mile at a time, or 26.2 marathon miles, or even a beautiful 50 miles at a time. It’s a very personal journey. So when it feels hard, remember, hard work equals progress, and progress equals happiness, and happiness contains fun, so then, there you have it. Now let’s all get out there and have some fun!

RISE UP FRIDAY!
Find delight in the little blessings.

RISE UP THURSDAY!
If I can show the love first, before our minds start to count chromosomes, pre-conceived beliefs would lose much of their power.

RISE UP WEDNESDAY!
When you look good and you know it.
Sometimes it’s hard…sometimes it’s hard having a child that has many limits in communicating with you. Sometimes it’s hard seeing other kids try to be his friend, and are so patient, but eventually want to do their own thing. You understand that, and realize more than ever you must find other children that are your child’s level as the ability gap increases with his typical age-group peers. Sometimes it’s hard when you just don’t know quite how to explain the multiple minute daily intricities that are usually part of life but sometimes pile up and fill you to capacity.
Then you sit down next to a mom you just met at a Special Olympics basketball practice, and she shares with you all these same things, but in her own son’s story, and you nod your head because even though her son has different special needs than your son’s, you share the same underlying situations and feelings. You hear and feel what she is saying underneath the words and she hears and feels what you are saying underneath the words. These moments readjust and realign my focus and give me my strength back. The sometimes it’s hard moments are still there, but they don’t feel as hard anymore. They have been shared and understood, and are now woven back into the fabric of my everyday life. A life I love, and would not exchange for anything. The sometimes it’s hard moments are just part of this life, and I respect that fact greatly. Without them I would never know the deep-down blessed connection there is to be shared underneath the words. And that is a powerful life-force, indeed.
