I have a today dream. To fully accept and integrate individuals with different abilities into society.
You may say that is easier said than done.
I will say that you are right. And that’s ok. I never cared much for easy anyway. There is no growth in easy. If we are not growing, well then, we are surely dying.
That is why I have a today dream:
Today we will not shun but see the value in another’s gifts different from our own.
Today we will release fear and embrace new experiences as prodigious teachers.
Today we will understand that slowing down often gets us exactly where need to be right on time.
Today we will freely offer support where it is needed knowing it will not return to us in kind. It will be exponentially greater.
Today we will understand that limits are preconceived and we all possess a value that shall never be underestimated.
Today we will measure success in terms of how we best work together to achieve our own varied and personal goals.
Today we will live up to what we already know.
Today is the day. Someday does not exist.

Sometimes you need to stop in the middle of it all, and have a chat with a friend.

The day I chose to fight for what I wanted,
rather than what I was against,
was the day limits lost their meaning.

I have met extraordinary people on this journey.
People who are not afraid to try new things.
Trying something new may be the only choice they have.
There is no “status quo” in the world of special needs.
There is only trying and trying again until something clicks.
When something does click, there is no elation like it.
Especially when that elation is shared with extraordinary people.

Though we may need to approach an obstacle in another way, I’m here to promise you that though it may be trying at times, it is always worth it.

It doesn’t matter how long it takes to make the climb. The triumph is in each step we took to get there.
