DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH – Day 25
How you see Down syndrome is Up to you ❤
DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH -Day 24
DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH – Day 24
Wil and Joey met at Elizabeth’s soccer game yesterday. They played together kicking a ball, playing freeze tag, trying to juggle fallen leaves. They even took their own selfie 🙂
Young kids know a friend when they meet one.
DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH – Day 22
DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH – Day 22
You will encounter people who do not get it. Who are blocked and can not, or will not, understand. They may be strangers, or people who should “know better.” They may be someone very close to you. This is an especially tough reality to face. It is difficult not to let this get you down. Somedays, it will. And that’s ok.
Because at the end of the day, when all has grown quiet, and the hurts and bumps of the day have been stripped away to just you and your child, you remember what you are fighting for. The deep, down core of it. This fight was never about them anyway. And that is something that can never be defeated.

Contrary to popular belief, you can not wear too many hats 🙂

I do not seek a cure for Down syndrome. If we are to find a cure, let it be for ailments associated with Down syndrome. Such as heart issues, Leukemia and early onset of Alzheimers. Down syndrome is not an illness. Down syndrome is a part of a whole person who brings special gifts to this world, as we all do. We are all here as perfectly as intended. That calls for a celebration, not a cure!

DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH – Day 19
Some days what Down syndrome (and life in general, for that matter) brings to the table can be challenging. That is why I find it of great service to share our success stories. You never know what strength your story could be delivering to another at just the right time.
I Have A Today Dream
I have a today dream. To fully accept and integrate individuals with different abilities into society.
You may say that is easier said than done.
I will say that you are right. And that’s ok. I never cared much for easy anyway. There is no growth in easy. If we are not growing, well then, we are surely dying.
That is why I have a today dream:
Today we will not shun but see the value in another’s gifts different from our own.
Today we will release fear and embrace new experiences as prodigious teachers.
Today we will understand that slowing down often gets us exactly where need to be right on time.
Today we will freely offer support where it is needed knowing it will not return to us in kind. It will be exponentially greater.
Today we will understand that limits are preconceived and we all possess a value that shall never be underestimated.
Today we will measure success in terms of how we best work together to achieve our own varied and personal goals.
Today we will live up to what we already know.
Today is the day. Someday does not exist.

Sometimes you need to stop in the middle of it all, and have a chat with a friend.
